Mike was a superb journalist. He worked with a team of crack reporters at the Rochester Times-Union. The team's boss is now president of the Associated Press (Tom Curley) and four members of the team (Stuart Elliott, Mike Winerip, Fred Eliason and Nancy Kreisler) went on to work at The New York Times. Mike made a side trip into insurance and never looked back. It was his journalism skills -- clarity of thought, elegant writing, endless curiosity and sense of adventure -- that have stayed with him and made him such a success. Of course, I think Gloria has had a bigger influence, and Hans. The Rochester team continues to keep Mike in their thoughts and prayers.
